Calm indifference, anyone?

I have been reading sad posts these past days. Then John said something like pebbles creating ripples and this poem came to mind. For all of us...

SANG-FROID

Still as water, the heart learns
the art of false serenity.

Each stone casts ripples upon ripples
upon placid emotions.

Each stone with its jagged edges
each, cutting, sinking.

Density has no meaning.
Depth is not a question.

Only calm indifference.

Yet...

As the water turns murky,
     as the water overflows,
          as the water runs dry..

Perhaps, it will cast its own ripples.

For the moment, there is only agitation
in tranquility.

Sang-froid, indeed.

    Depth is not a question.
    Only calm indifference."

  3. Me? Again?! As long as the juices keep flowing...

Who cares what brainless thing I said...

  4. See here, John, I don't think it was brainless. Don't put yourself down too much ;p

  5. Thanks, mate!

The lines you mentioned, whenever I recite it, feels somekind of a bridge, you know, like in songs...I dunno...My fave line, though, is "agitation in tranquility" because of the irony incorporated.

  6. well-said! Agitation in Tranquility...

the essence of most things lies beneath outward appearances, the meaning between the lines bears greater significance than what is plainly, immediately apparant...

    There's a line I particularly like...
Let there be spaces in the togetherness...

  8. very very very true... it's amazing how one event... whether big or small can spark a myriad of happenings... that's why they call it the "rippling effect"... with a wide range of reach too...

  9. 'the ripple effect" = a gradual spreading of influence or effect.
Silent but sure of its aim

  10. Yes, it's about the "rippling effect". It's also the depth of the effect of things. Sometimes we don't see it because we are not allowed to see.

  11. ...and from whatever is unseen or unknown is where fear and uncertainty arise. It also often the breeding ground of an inner hurt that is hardest to cure.
